Definitions

Ambience -The character and atmosphere of a location.

Foley -Recording a sound effect e.g. hitting an object.

ADR -(Automatic Dialogue Replacement)

Reverb -Acoustic environment that surrounds a sound.

Flat -No ambience in a room, so the room is completely quiet.

Mixing desk -Responsible for coming, routing and changing the level of audio signals.

Levels -Level of sound which is measured in decibels.

Tracks -Sound recorded that is put into a production such as a film.

Stereo -A method of sound reproduction that creates an illusion of directionality and audible perspective.

Pitch -Allows the ordering of sounds on a frequency-related scale.

Mono -Sound travelling through a single channel.

Analog -Audio with continuos vibration.

Digital -Sound stored in things such as CDs.

Frequency -The measurement of sound that has repeated in a per-unit of time.

Range -The ratio in quietest or loudest of sound.

dB -A unit used to measure the intensity of sound.
